Competences

NUMA has by its research groups the following competences:

Sustainable Manufacturing (top)
The competences related to the Sustainable Manufacturing are catalyzed by the group AMA, which develops its activities in strait collaboration with the group GEI2 (that deals with environmental questions during the products development process – Eco-design) and with the group OPF (that deals with environmental questions during the products manufacturing - cleaner production).

Automation (top)
Competence mainly found in the group OPF that develops automation either in the process of manufacture or machinery, creating intelligent machines. In the other groups this competence is related mainly with the application of the information systems.

Quality management (top)
Competence of GMME, which has a vast experience in the area. However, the quality conception permeates all the other groups and, works related with this area can also be found in GEI2.

Product Development Management (top)
Essential GEI2's competence, but this theme is also dealt in GMO and GMME.

Change Management (top)
GMO and GMME's competence, yet some change questions related with the life-cycle of the products are also dealt by GEI2.

Processes Management (top)
Basic competence of all groups, because worldwide class enterprises are managed by processes and therefore, to design (to model), analyze and optimize are common activities to various improvement project.

Knowledge Management (top)
GEI2’s competence with emphasis on the application of the information systems.

Lean Production (top)
Nowadays, the main GMO’s competence. Lean Products development is dealt by GEI2.

Logistics (top)
LOGOSS’s essential competence.

Development Measures (top)
Competence of GMME which develops several works in the area with practical application in enterprises. GEI2 only develops works in this area when related with the products development process. GMO and LOGOSS also deal with this question in the area of projection of production and logistics respectively.

Continue Improvement (top)
GMME and also GMO’s competence. In the area of products development GEI2 deals with this theme and the OPF group accomplishes many works of this types with enterprises.

Enterprise Modeling (top)
Basic competence to accomplish the works from GEI2, GMO, GMME and LOGOSS group which comprises the dominion of many methods and tools of modeling in several areas of knowledge.

Optimization of Manufacture Process (top)
Essential competence of the OPF group. It’s also theme inside the lean production in the works developed by GMO.

Cooperation Networks (top)
In the past we had a group that searched for virtual enterprises (EVI) which started forming NUMA’s competence in this area. Nowadays it’s the essential competence of the AR-C group. GEI2 also develops works related with collaborative engineering and the LOGOSS group with the chain supplies that is a cooperation network.

Six Sigma (top)
GMME, GEI2 e GMO's competence in agreement with its specific actuation area.

Information System (top)
All the groups have this competence comprising embarking systems of control, automation, planning, simulation, programming etc. in the various knowledge area of NUMA.
